Clean Water Advisory Panel
On June 28, 2002 Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin announced
the formation of a panel
of experts to advise the city on Atlanta’s$1 billion combined
sewer overflow plan. The Mayor’s “Clean Water Advisory
Panel,” chaired by Dr. Wayne Clough, President
of the Georgia Institute of Technology and a respected civil
engineer,
conducted a comprehensive technical review of the City’s
plan to ensure that it is in the best long-term interest of
the City.
In announcing the committee Mayor Franklin said, “In
solving its CSO problems, the City must make decisions that
will fundamentally affect its water quality, economic growth
and financial stability for generations to come. I want the
best advice possible as we make these critical decisions. Through
Dr. Clough’s committee, I know I will get that.”
The nine-member panel of experts was personally selected by
Dr. Clough to ensure both technical expertise and independence.
All members of the Panel are nationally known experts in the
fields of civil engineering, wastewater treatment or public
health. Many have extensive experience in developing CSO plans
for other large cities.
