Westover
Plantation Property
The Westover Plantation property acquisition will protect
approximately 2,050 feet of Peachtree Creek, and over eight acres
of greenspace located entirely within the 100-year floodplain. In
this established area of Atlanta, vegetated stream buffers and greenspace
help improve water quality and control flooding. The 100-year floodplain
is defined as the area that has a one percent chance of flooding
in any given year. Millions of dollars in structural damages can
result if property is developed within the floodplain. The permanent
protection of a conservation easement (a 100-foot wide segment)
along Peachtree Creek will ensure that development does not occur
inside the floodplain. Whether it provides connectivity, improved
wildlife habitat or floodplain protection, every greenway property
has its own unique features to contribute to the City of Atlanta
Greenway Acquisition Project.
