Vodopich
Property
The Vodopich property acquisition will protect approximately
190 feet of Peachtree Creek. This acquisition is located in a residential
area of northwest Atlanta, near several other protected greenway
properties located on Peachtree Creek. This acquisition of more
than an acre for preservation in this densely developed area of
the City of Atlanta, combined with nearby acquisitions, will help
preserve the water quality of Peachtree Creek. A vegetated stream
buffer will help improve water quality for several reasons. As water
flows from adjacent impervious surfaces, a vegetated buffer will
help slow the rush of water. This in turn will allow sediments and
pollutants to settle out of storm water before entering the creek.
Additionally, a slower flow of storm water will help prevent the
stream banks from washing away and collapsing. All these factors
combined will result in improved water quality for Peachtree Creek.
Every property owner who participates in the Atlanta Greenway Acquisition
Program can feel good about making a difference for both their neighborhood
creek and ultimately the Chattahoochee and South Rivers.
