Tate
Property
This greenway property is located in southwest Atlanta,
near several other greenway properties. It is entirely comprised
of floodplain land. This acquisition is significant because, since
this property is located on a slightly larger lot, 2.22 acres are
protected through this acquisition. This is a significant acquisition
in a highly urbanized area. Since the property is located in a densely
developed area, a large percentage of adjacent land is covered by
impervious surfaces. Impervious surfaces include: roads, rooftops,
driveways, and other areas where water is unable to infiltrate the
ground. The acquisition and protection of a wide and undeveloped
stream bank and floodplain on this property will help slow and filter
the rush of storm water from these adjacent impervious surfaces.
By filtering the water and slowing the flow, less pollutants and
sediment will enter the creek. This will result in improving the
water quality of South Utoy Creek.
