Shaddix
Property
The Shaddix property acquisition protects approximately
450 feet of the Sweetwater Creek streambank and three acres of 100-year
floodplain. This acquisition represents a significant contribution
to the protection of metropolitan Atlanta's streams that are threatened
by contaminants in stormwater runoff. In a region that depends on
surface water for 98 percent of its drinking water resources, it
is critical that streambanks are protected through the establishment
of greenway buffers. Ultimately, residents bear the burden of this
pollution problem through higher treatment costs, fishing or swimming
restrictions, and loss of scenic/property value. However, every
property owner who participates in the Greenway Acquisition Project
can feel confident about improving water quality for both their
neighborhood and ultimately Georgia's primary drinking water supply
- the Chattahoochee and South Rivers.
