Robertson
Property
Dense development throughout Atlanta overshadows the
existence of some of the city's long forgotten natural places. However,
the acquisition of almost seven undeveloped acres and 1,096 feet
of the South River stream bank makes the Robertson property one
of those hidden gems. Development impacts, such as stormwater runoff
in the form of sedimentation and other pollutants from construction
sites, are major contributors of "nonpoint source" pollution.
Nonpoint source pollution stems from thousands of indirect sources
and empties into rivers and streams during periods of rainfall.
The City of Atlanta Greenway Acquisition Project aims to improve
water quality conditions throughout the city and reduce the amount
of nonpoint source pollution in Atlanta's watersheds.
