This Priority-1 acquired Greenway Property is located in a residential area and continues to build connectivity along South Utoy Creek. This property is also entirely located in the floodplain. Protecting the floodplain is important to help prevent flooding downstream. A wide undeveloped and vegetated floodplain helps to slow the flow of water. By slowing the flow of water, the water is allowed to infiltrate into the ground. This protects the stream banks from erosion and collapse. This acquisition is also an example of how small property owners can help to preserve water quality in their own neighborhoods.
