The Greenway Acquisition Project will protect properties from being developed near rivers and streams, which will reduce the amount of impervious surface (such as concrete or asphalt) in the watershed. Located in a residential area on Sandringham Drive, near Campbellton Road in southwest Atlanta, this Priority 1 status property will protect South Utoy Creek from pollutants and sediments that wash into the creek from these impervious surfaces. A connected series of greenway properties with a 100-foot wide buffer on the stream also ensures the biological integrity of plant and animal species within the greenway corridor along South Utoy Creek. Every property acquired by the City of Atlanta is a meaningful contribution to the protection of water resources the community.
