This Priority-1 acquired greenway property is located in a residential area off Camden Road, between two railroad lines. Adding to the water quality benefits of this property acquisition, the nearby Vroon property was also recently acquired by the City of Atlanta. When adjacent property owners along the same stream segment participate in the Greenway Acquisition Project, this results in more continuous stream miles that are protected. A connected corridor of greenspace creates a more suitable habitat for plants and animals and enhances the water quality of the stream. Vegetation in the protected stream corridor and floodplain aids in the filtration of pollutants from stormwater, and helps prevent flooding downstream. As a result, water treatment costs to the public can be lowered, while having a direct benefit on water quality.
