Lewis Property
Contrary to popular belief, greenways protected by the City of Atlanta may be located in many types of settings, from remote woods to the urban landscape. This Priority-1 acquired Greenway Property is located paritally within the 100-year floodplain of South Utoy Creek, in a residential area of southwest Atlanta. A MARTA bus route and major thoroughfare, Campbellton Road crosses South Utoy Creek adjacent to the Lewis property. Acquisition of the Lewis property will preserve a vegetated buffer in the floodplain and will protect the stream from flood damage by filtering and slowing the flow of water to the stream. This acquisition is yet another example of how property owner participation in the Greenway Acquisition Project can yield multiple benefits to the health of Atlanta's rivers and streams.
