The acquisition of these two adjacent parcels builds on the purchase of another adjacent parcel located east of Stovall Road in Cobb County for a combined total of almost 5 acres of protected greenspace. These recently purchased parcels also now completely protect a wetland area adjacent to Sweetwater Creek. As the Metropolitan Atlanta region continues to grow, the surrounding areas continue to experience development pressure. This acquisition is an example of how the City of Atlanta can protect greenspace and create green buffer areas along streams before the adjacent land is developed. Protected stream buffers along major creeks will help to minimize any negative impacts of growth on the streams of the Atlanta region.
