Landrum
Property
With the purchase of the Landrum property on Sweetwater
Creek, the Greenway Acquisition Project will protect almost 10 acres
of land along this creek. This acquisition will also provide approximately
1,450 feet of permanent stream bank protection along Sweetwater
Creek. This acquisition continues to build on the connected corridor
of protected streamside buffer properties that the Atlanta Greenway
Acquisition Project has purchased along Sweetwater Creek. As the
counties in the Metropolitan Atlanta region continue to grow, more
impervious surfaces are built in the surrounding watershed. These
impervious surfaces result in more storm water run-off entering
the creeks and rivers. A protected vegetated buffer along the streambank
helps to slow the flow of water and thus allows the pollution and
sediment carried with it to settle out before entering the creek.
Every property protected by the Atlanta Greenway Acquisition Project
can help preserve the water quality for those who live downstream.
