This Priority-1 acquired Greenway Property is located in a residential and commercial area in southeast Atlanta on the South River. In addition to protecting over 1,000 feet of the South River stream bank, the Empire Park Tributary is also included in this greenway acquisition. A connected corridor of greenspace is ideal for greenway acquisition by the City of Atlanta by creating a more suitable habitat for plants and animals and enhancing the water quality of the stream. Vegetation in the protected South River stream corridor and floodplain aids in the filtration of pollutants from stormwater, and helps prevent flooding downstream.
