The Greenway Acquisition Project will protect properties from being developed near rivers and streams, which will reduce the amount of impervious surface (such as concrete or asphalt) in the watershed. Located in a residential area on Ridgewood Road, in northwest Atlanta, this Priority 1 status conservation easement will protect Peachtree Creek from pollutants and sediments that wash into the creek from these impervious surfaces. This acquisition continues to build on the connectivity of the greenway buffer along Peachtree Creek. A connected series of greenway properties with a 100-foot wide buffer on the creek also ensures the biological integrity of plant and animal species within the greenway corridor along Peachtree Creek. This acquisition is another example of how small property owner participation can add up to big benefits for Atlanta streams.
