Hughes Property
Located in a residential area in northwest Atlanta, the Hughes property acquisition will protect approximately 147 feet of Peachtree Creek. Recent property acquisitions along Ridgemore Road and nearby Margaret Mitchell Drive will be contributing factors to the improved water quality and health of Peachtree Creek. This Priority-1 Greenway Acquisition will protect vegetation within a 100-foot conservation easement of the creek. In urban areas, vegetation can make a significant difference in improving air quality and reducing the "heat island effect" created by heat radiating from impervious surfaces. Water temperatures are in turn kept cool from the shade provided by the vegetation along the stream banks.
