This acquired Greenway Property is located in a residential area in northeast Atlanta, and is one of the first acquisitions along Peachtree Creek. The Ridgemore Road property located on the other side of the creek was also acquired by the City of Atlanta for stream protection. Acquiring and protecting property on both sides of the creek is especially desirable for the Greenway Acquistion Project. A connected corridor of greenspace creates a more stable habitat for plants and animals, and also helps to slow the flow of storm water into the stream. Protecting the floodplain on both sides of the creek also helps prevent flooding downstream. A vegetated corridor on both sides of the creek provides an area for storm water and run-off to infiltrate the ground, which keeps pollution and sediment carried from roads from entering the creek. Eventually, this improves water quality and helps prevent erosion.
