Greene
Property
The Greene property acquisition was a unique opportunity
for the City of Atlanta to work with The Conservation Fund, a non-profit
land trust, to preserve greenspace along Utoy Creek in southwest
Atlanta. This property is comprised of 99.89 acres, most of which
is floodplain that winds along 6,400 feet of Utoy Creek's main stem.
This acquisition also presented an opportunity to combine Georgia
Greenspace funds with Atlanta Greenway Acquisition project funds.
Through the use of money from two sources, more land was able to
be protected by the City of Atlanta. This acquisition will also
continue to build connectivity on Utoy Creek. A high percentage
of property owners along Utoy Creek have participated in the project,
which has resulted in a connected corridor of protected greenspace.
A connected corridor provides a more stable habitat for plants and
animals.
