Glenn
Property
The City of Atlanta Greenway Acquisition Project attempts
to improve water quality through the purchase of 100-foot wide conservation
easements along the banks of metropolitan Atlanta's rivers and streams.
Conservation easement acquisitions such as the Glenn Property in
northwest Atlanta will protect Peachtree Creek from further degradation
from pollutants and sediments that wash into the creek from roads,
parking lots, construction sites, homes, and businesses. Termed
"nonpoint source pollution" this type of pollution enters
the watershed from numerous places along the stream. As Atlanta
continues to expand, nonpoint source pollution is the principal
cause for our water quality concerns. Although we are all a part
of the problem, the Greenway Acquisition Project gives everyone
the opportunity to be involved in the water quality solution.
