Margaret Mitchell Drive Property
This greenway acquisition is comprised of a linear
vacant lot which has never been developed. The plant life on the
property is diverse, and includes some extremely large and beautiful
hardwood trees. This property is also partially located in the floodplain.
Preserving the floodplain in an undeveloped state reduces the risk
of flooding downstream. Due to the unusual linear shape of this
property, an exceptional amount of stream frontage is protected
by this acquisition. The property is also located across Peachtree
Creek from the Ridgemore Road property. Both of these acquisitions
are located adjacent to the confluence of Nancy and Peachtree Creeks.
Therefore, this area is an area vulnerable to erosion. Having multiple
protected properties that are adjacent creates a more stable system
for habitat protection. This acquisition also protects a small tributary
that is located near the southern corner of the property.
