Frazier
Property
The Frazier property acquisition is particularly exciting
for the City of Atlanta, and is ideal for greenway acquisition.
Surrounded by growing residential construction in southwest Atlanta,
the Frazier property is comprised of nearly 40 acres of undeveloped
land located along the main stem of Utoy Creek. Partially located
in the floodplain, protection of this property helps prevent flooding
downstream by slowing the flow of storm water into Utoy Creek. Also
by slowing the flow of storm water, sediments and pollutants are
filtered from run-off of adjacent impervious surfaces. These items
are allowed to settle out of storm water before entering the creek.
This substantial acquisition is an example of how property owner
participation in the Atlanta Greenway Acquisition Project results
in the protection of Atlanta's valuable water resources.
