This greenway acquisition along North Utoy Creek continues to build a protected greenway corridor along this creek. The Atlanta Greenway Acquisition Project has been very successful in this area of Atlanta, which will result in the preservation of connected properties. This will improve and protect water quality along both North and South Utoy Creeks. This acquisition is also partially located in the floodplain. Protection of the floodplain helps prevent flooding downstream. It also helps to filter sediment and pollutants from flowing into the stream. By slowing the flow of water, these items are allowed to settle out of stormwater before entering the creek. This acquisition is another example of how multiple small property owner participation in the Atlanta Greenway Acquisition project is resulting in the success of the project.
