Property
This Priority-1 acquired Greenway Property is located
on South Fork Peachtree Creek in a densely developed residential
area in northeast Atlanta. This acquisition is the second along
this creek, which is a tributary of the Chattahoochee River. The
South Fork Peachtree Creek watershed contains a large amount of
impervious surfaces. The storm water run-off from all these roads,
driveways, and structures contains pollutants and sediment which
is then carried into surrounding streams. However, as more properties
are purchased for protection by the City of Atlanta Greenway Acquisition
Project, this storm water run-off will be cleaner when it flows
into surrounding creeks. This is because a streamside vegetated
corridor filters out some of the pollution and sediment before it
can enter the creek. This acquisition was also partially funded
by the Blank Family Foundation. Since the Blank Foundation donated
a portion of the funds to purchase this property, more City of Atlanta
greenway funds will be available to purchase and protect additional
other properties.
