D'agnese Property Highly
valued ecologically for its wide floodplain and wetland areas, this
property was acquired under the City of Atlanta Greenway Acquisition
Project from Mr. Paul D'Agnese. Originally valued at $735,000, only
$366,176.33 of Greenway Acquisition Project funds were actually
used to acquire this property because Mr. D'Agnese donated a large
number of this property's acreage to the City. Under the Greenway
Acquisition Project, donations are encouraged because they can benefit
both the buyer and the seller. Donations allow the City, as the
buyer, to reserve Greenway Acquisition Project monies for other
acquisitions, and donations may provide a tax break to the seller.
On Earth Day, 2002, Mayor Shirley Franklin celebrated this property
as one of the largest acquisitions the City had made under the Greenway
Acquisition Project to date.
