Blue
Brick LLC Property
The Blue Brick LLC property acquisition is a significant
one for the City of Atlanta. It is adjacent to several other large
properties which have been acquired including the Hampton tract
and the Beecher tract. Several other small properties have also
been acquired both adjacent to this property as well as all along
North Utoy Creek. This connected corridor of acquired properties
represents a huge success for the Greenway Acquisition project.
A connected corridor of protected streamside buffer properties is
the most beneficial from an ecological standpoint and from a water
quality protection standpoint. Connected corridors are the ultimate
goal of the Greenway Acquisition project. Besides being large in
acreage, this property is bordered on three sides by Utoy Creek.
Therefore, it protects over 2,300 feet of streambank. This area
is also historically significant. Civil War experts believe that
the hills on this and other adjacent properties were was once used
during the Battle of Utoy Creek, where troops fought from trenches
located in this area. Protection of this property from development
will help protect the streambank from the damaging effects of erosion
and sedimentation along Utoy Creek, while also retaining the historical
integrity of this segment of Utoy Creek.
