Beecher Hills Tract The
Beecher Hills property acquisition is an example of one of the City's
most successful coordination efforts with local non-profits and
environmental organizations. Situated near the Beecher Hills Elementary
School and several residential areas, this Priority-1 status tract
has been valued for years by local environmental groups.
According to the Georgia Natural Heritage Program (GNHP)
and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), this tract contains potential habitat for endangered or protected
species. Recognizing
its ecological value, local environmental organizations contacted
Saving Places for Atlanta's Community Environmental, Inc. Land Trust
(SPACE), an urban land protection non-profit agency, to help preserve
the various properties that now comprise the Beecher Hills tract.
SPACE was successful in acquiring these properties and sold the
compiled tract to the City of Atlanta Greenway Acquisition Project
for $400,000. This property is immediately adjacent to another Greenway
Property, the Lionel Hampton Tract.
