Beckham Property
This Priority-1 acquired Greenway Property is located in a residential area on Margaret Mitchell Drive in northwest Atlanta, near several other properties protected by the Greenway Acquisition Project. From a watershed perspective, the connected corridor of greenspace creates an ideal habitat for plants and animals, and enhances water quality of the stream as well as its downstream segments. Vegetation in the protected stream corridor and floodplain aids in the filtration of pollutants from stormwater. Sandbars and eroded banks are evidence of flooding at this property, but the protected greenspace will help prevent flooding by slowing the overland flow of stormwater to rivers and streams. This acquisition is an outstanding example of how a neighborhood can work together to protect water quality in their community.
