PRS
Cascade Property
The PRS Cascade property acquisition was an opportunity
for the City of Atlanta to work with a developer to preserve greenspace
along the main stem of Utoy Creek in southwest Atlanta. This property
is comprised of almost 23 acres, all of which is located within
the 100-year floodplain of Utoy Creek. The PRS Cascade property
will also protect several wetlands on the property. In addition
to providing superior wildlife habitat, wetlands can provide initial
treatment of polluted stormwater and reduce flooding downstream
through its storage capacity. When the velocity of stormwater that
flows into the system is reduced, pollutants are allowed to settle
out of the stormwater before continuing downstream. Whether it provides
connectivity, improved wildlife habitat or flood control, every
greenway property has its own unique features to contribute to the
City of Atlanta Greenway Acquisition Project.
